Week 2 Part A: Business & Consumers: Communication and Reviews

The way businesses and consumers communicate has completely changed over the years. Before, if you had a complaint or wanted to give feedback, you had to call, email, or even send a letter. Now, with social media and online reviews, businesses can get feedback instantly, and customers have way more power to be heard. Platforms like Yelp, Google, and Facebook make it easy for people to share their experiences, whether good or bad. What’s interesting is that businesses often respond faster on social media than through traditional customer service channels. A public review or post can put pressure on a company to fix an issue quickly, which wasn’t always the case in the past.

While researching reviews, I noticed a huge difference between how businesses handle positive and negative feedback. Many companies respond to good reviews with a simple “thank you,” which is nice but not always personal. On the other hand, negative reviews seems to get a lot more attention. Some businesses get defensive, which usually makes things worse, while others take the time to respond professionally, apologize, and try to fix the problem. The businesses that actually engage with their customers, whether the feedback is positive or negative, seem to have a better reputation overall.

When I leave reviews, I try to be fair and honest. I don’t like to write reviews when I’m frustrated because I know emotions can make things seem worse than they actually are. If I do leave a negative review, I focus on the facts and not just venting. But I also think it’s important to leave positive reviews when I have a great experience. A lot of people only leave reviews when something goes wrong, so businesses that are doing a good job deserve recognition too. I’ve seen small businesses struggle because of just a few bad reviews, even when most customers are happy.

If I owned a business, I would take reviews seriously and use them as a way to improve. I’d respond to positive reviews with appreciation and make sure customers feel valued. For negative reviews, I’d try to fix the problem instead of ignoring or arguing with the customer. People are more likely to give a business another chance if they feel like their concerns were heard. Plus, how a business responds to criticism says a lot about its values.

Overal, online reviews have changed the way businesses and consumers interact. Customers now have more influence than ever, and businesses have to adapt by being responsive and professional. At the same time, customers should be responsible with their reviews, making sure they’re fair and not just emotional reactions. In the end, honest and thoughtful communication benefits both businesses and consumers, making online reviews an important part of today’s marketplace.

Week1 B: Social Media Use Today

Social media has become a powerful tool that connects people, ideas, and businesses in ways we never thought possible. It’s fascinating to see how it’s transformed communication, allowing us to share moments instantly and engage with people across the globe. However, social media also has its challenges, like the constant need to stay updated and the impact it can have on mental health. For better or worse, it’s a big part of our world today, and understanding how to use it wisely is more important than ever.

When I think about how social media is used overall, it’s clear that different platforms cater to different needs. Instagram and TikTok, for example, lean heavily toward personal use, with users sharing their lives through photos and videos. Platforms like LinkedIn, on the other hand, are more professional, focused on networking and business opportunities. Facebook seems to blend both worlds, serving as a space for personal updates while also being a platform for businesses to reach customers. Each platform has its unique culture, and how you use them often depends on your goals.

Personally, I see social media as a mix of both personal and professional opportunities. It’s a space where you can celebrate life’s milestones, discover new ideas, and even learn new skills. I’ve noticed more businesses using platforms like Instagram and Twitter to market their products, build brands, and connect with customers on a personal level. It’s interesting how some companies even use humor or trends to engage their audience, making their content feel more relatable. It’s a great reminder that social media is more than just a tool—it’s a space to tell stories and build connections.

Right now, my own use of social media is relatively balanced. I use platforms like Instagram to stay connected with friends and family and to share special moments in my life. I’ve also been exploring how social media can be used professionally, especially as I’m nearing the completion of my degree. LinkedIn has been a great resource for networking and finding inspiration in my field. While I’m careful about how much time I spend online, I’ve learned to see social media as a tool that can work for me instead of against me.

In the end, I think social media is what you make of it. It has the potential to be a positive space where people can connect, grow, and learn, but it requires mindfulness and balance. Whether it’s for personal use, business, or both, the key is to use it intentionally and not let it overwhelm you. For me, social media is about creating meaningful connections and finding inspiration—two things that make all the difference in today’s fast-paced world.

My Mission

Being a mom has changed everything for me, it’s given my life a new purpose, a deeper sense of motivation, and a reason to push forward even when things get tough. This blog is a reflection of that mission: to grow, to learn, and to succeed, not just for myself but for my son.

I chose the theme for this blog with simplicity in mind because life as a mom can be anything but simple. I wanted a clean, calm space where I can share my thoughts and document my journey. It’s a place where I can express what drives me every day: the dream of building a better future for my little one and for myself.

This blog is more than an assignment; it’s a way to capture the balance of motherhood, education, and personal growth. Every challenge I face and every step I take is a reminder of why I’m here, to create a life that my son can be proud of and to show him that no matter where you start, you can accomplish anything with hard work and determination.

Through these posts, I hope to not only share my journey but also inspire anyone who might feel like their dreams are out of reach. No matter how hard things get, the love for my son keeps me moving forward, and that’s what this blog is all about.

Every mom has a mission, and this is mine: to keep learning, growing, and striving for success, one step at a time.

Week 17: Wrapping It Up
